The Best Virginia Cities to Live In

Virginia is one of the best states in the country for anyone who wants to get away to a beautiful coastal state and still have the chance to work in some of the top industries and government roles in the country.  If you're eager to find your dream city and hope it lives in Virginia, these are the best options out there!

Alexandria

Just outside of DC and home to over 160,000 people, Alexandria is one of the best cities to pick beside the Potomac River!  Homes here are a third of the price of properties in Arlington, and you can enjoy the endless outdoor excitement here, including trying wine at George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate!

Bon Air

Just a handful of minutes away from Richmond, the state capital, this is one of the best suburbs in the state!  Bon Aire is the second largest city on this list, with 17,000 people who call it home: and thankfully, it's affordable!  The average rent here is just over $1,400, and the average income is around $90,000 a year.

In Bon Air, you can simply hop over to Richmond and enjoy the parks, museums, and endless gorgeous trails and scenery before going back to your smaller town.  This is a dream come true for many!

Arlington

Arlington real estate can be pricey, but it's worth it!  One of the cities tightly surrounding Washington, DC, this area has a population of just over 200,000 people and an average annual income of over $120,000!  The jobs here range from political work to educate, tech, and so much more.  It's easy to enjoy all of the historical sights to see while also being within a stone's throw of the most beautiful beaches in the state.

Stone Ridge

Although this is the smallest city on this list, don’t count it out!  Home to only 15,000 people, it has the highest median rent at $2,459: but it also has an annual income of $163,500 for the average person.  This means your dollar can stretch a lot further.  Getting to live in a smaller community is better for individuals who want to start a family or are eager to escape from hectic city life when they can.  Stone Ridge is a fantastic area for anyone.

Chesapeake

Although Chesapeake is far more affordable than Stone Ridge, with an average monthly rent of $1,500 a month, the income drops by half.  The median annual income sits at $80,000, with house prices close to $330,000.

This is also an incredibly dense area, so it’s best for people who love city living.

Thankfully, Chesapeake has its perks!  From the incredible views to the fantastic nightlife and endless shopping and fun, you'll never run out of interesting things to do and try while you live here!
